I had once heard (said by I) the plural of вино́, ви́на, and I distinctly remember thinking, “this is why I’ll never master Russian!” I know that the plural of nouns in -о is usually (it couldn’t be always, could it?) -а, and I’m not surprised that the plural of вещество́ is вещеста́ — but the change from вино́ to ви́на was somehow unexpected.

…until the other day I heard someone (C) enumerate drinks, in the plural, and he said коньяки́, ви́ны. Could it be that a plural like ви́на also sounds weird to Russians? But then why not вина́? Does вина́ “guilt” have anything to do with it? And why not вины́?

Formally, the plural of вино́ is indeed ви́на [1]. But there is evidence online that ви́ны is sometimes used. I search for “коньяки, вины” and these were the first results that I found:

According to Wiktionary, пиво doesn’t really have a plural [8], hence the fourth example says “коньяки,вины,пиво”.

The first example is different from the others in that its language is clearly formal. This seems to be a mistake in the text, since by searching for “коньяки, вина и другие спиртные напитки” I found the same piece of legislation in many places, with the correct word form.

2019-03-31: C was talking about wines and said, unmistakably: “есть вот ви́на такие”. I don’t know what this means.
